Kitty-cat comedic RPG, The Chronicles of Nyanya, is available now. I am not going to make a bunch of cat puns during this small article, so don't get your hopes up. See? Right there, I could have said "So don't get your claws out", but I'm not going to, ok? I'm just not. Can we get on with this now? Thanks.
The Chronicles of Nyanya is a retro-style RPG with pixel art graphics, turn-based battles, and 20 hours of gameplay. The team thinks this game is hilarious, and I hope they're right; I like comedy, and screw it- I like kitties. Especially kitties who dress up as ninjas. Shit's dope.
In Chronicles of Nyanya, you'll meet cute kitties, living pastries and battle against Nazi furniture villains. They are pushing for an aesthetic you would expect on Adult Swim, not a kitty cat video game. Despite the cuddly kitties and cute graphics, the game’s protagonist, the meowsassin Catair, isn’t exactly a happy go-lucky hero. You wouldn’t be either if you lost your whole family when you were a child and witnessed your neighbors being burnt alive during the massacre of your village. Brutal!
As you progress through the game’s story, you can try to pull Catair away from the darkness, or push him towards it. There’s a friendship system in the game that changes the gameplay and the story according to the choices you’ve made, requiring multiple playthroughs to see every piece of the story, which is substantial- the script is over 113,000 words, and they claim that the more pop culture you seen, novels and comics read and television watched, the more you will get the ridiculous amounts of jokes and references.
The Chronicles of Nyanya is available now on Steam.
