TOKYO – March 3, 2026 – No obstacle is too great if we stand together! Independent publisher Happinet is pleased to share that Quillo Entertainment's story-rich adventure title Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale is available for purchase now on PC via Steam for an MSRP of $14.99, €14.79, and £12.79. To celebrate the launch, Happinet is offering a 10% discount on the title through March 9. Additionally, fans will be able to purchase the game's whimsical original soundtrack on Steam separately for $3.99 starting March 12.
"Apopia is a bitter story covered with a 'sugar-coated' surface in a fantastical world, but the setting is rooted in real experience and emotions that I believe players will resonate with," said Onon Ng, aka Andy, game director and co-founder of Quillo Entertainment. "We've spent the last eight years making Apopia and want to extend a whole-hearted thank you to everyone who has stayed by our side in anticipation of our game. We couldn't have gotten here without your support."
Developed by a core team of two people and serving as the debut title from Quillo Entertainment, Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale is a comedic adventure with a dark mystery at its core. Play as Mai, a young girl lost in a strange land called Yogurt. Explore a beautiful hand-drawn fantasy world inspired by beloved cartoons between the 1990s and 2010s. Meet an assortment of humorous animal characters along the way, both friend and foe, to learn how Yogurt was taken over by a shadowy tyrant named BOSS. Progress by solving puzzles and outsmarting enemies in minigames to unravel the secret of Mai's identity from her blurry memories and discover the truth about her family and why she can read minds to access the Dark World: a hidden reality locked within the subconscious of others.
Key Features:
Unravel a Poignant Tale – Brimming with rich symbolism and metaphor, Apopia encourages players to look at things from different perspectives. Its light-hearted exterior is layered with profound themes of parenthood, humanity, companionship, self-discovery, and more.
Play as Multiple Characters – Explore the world through different perspectives and learn more about each character's unique storyline. Play as a curious young girl named Mai, a kindhearted bunny princess named Moly, a feisty cat named Nico, and more throughout the adventure. Work as a team using character combos to solve problems and defeat enemies with wit instead of weapons.
Explore A New Land – Interact with a distinctive fantasy world to discover clues, solve puzzles, reveal hidden secrets, and complete character-specific quests. Engage in unique real-time boss fights and play a variety of exciting minigames.
Discover Two Distinct Worlds – Use Mai's power to switch between two inverse realities: the Fantasy World and the Dark World. In the Fantasy World, characters solve physical problems, while the Dark World requires them to overcome psychological obstacles. Traverse these alternate worlds to uncover their secrets and gain new insight.
Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale is the second title published under the Happinet Indie Collection label, and includes localization for English, Japanese, Chinese (simplified), and Brazilian Portuguese. Players can try a free demo for Apopia before purchasing, which contains the prologue chapter that introduces the game's distinctive hand-drawn art style, charming cast of characters, and the mysterious nature of its dual-world premise. Fans wanting to learn more can watch Apopia: The Broken Crown on YouTube, an original animated short that serves as a prequel to the game.
